Santa’s Workshop - Inside China’s Slave Labour Toy Factories

Sometimes we have no choice, we work till dawn. When you work all night you become dizzy and your eyes hurt because you can’t take any breaks. SANTA’S WORKSHOP takes you to the real world of China’s toy factories. Workers tell us about long working hours, low wages, and dangerous work places. Those who protest or try to organize trade unions risk imprisonment. Low labor costs attract more and more companies to China. Today more than 75% of our toys are made in China. But this industry takes its toll on the workers and on the environment. The European (and American) buyers blame bad conditions on the Chinese suppliers. But they say that increasingly hard competition gives them no option. Who should we believe? And what can you do to bring about a fairer and more humane toy trade?

    Damn man they deserve their eight hours of work, two hours overtime. They don’t even have a life outside, its like prison. Its sin to pressure them to work like that.

    @jfluter
    Good question, all I can really say is that the bad shops are definitely being exposed (the ones in this video, Apple in China, etc.).

  18. jfluter says:

    @fountainherz So how can we find out which products are made in decent shops, and which ones aren’t?

  19. fountainherz says:

    @jfluter
    “purchasing anything that was made in China”
    Well I’m not trying to be a twat but not all shops in china are run like this, some are good to their workers, have good conditons etc., so why stop buying from them just because firms like these? If anything those good shops should be supported while the bad cut off, so the bad ones get the message that consumers aren’t going to fuck around.

  20. fountainherz says:

    @gyouaredone
    The consumers don’t and shouldn’t even need to pay the etra cost. Why? Because multi-billion corps like walmart can more than afford better conditions. These corps need to cut their ceo’s insane salaries/income and use it on improving capital and conditions.

  23. sinnieleeonUtube says:

    I keep hearing these western reporters bashing the people who willing to work for slave wage
    (they have no choice since they needed the jobs). This is a bunch of western hypocrisy to no end.
    This is the ONLY reason they outsource the work to oversea countries like China.

    The big greedy companies always have the choice to pay the workers more and this can easily be implemented just by revoking the contract. I’m so sick of this BULLSHIT.

  24. taradula86 says:

    And all the viewers of these video have computer monitors made in China….

  25. LuvinJesusynot says:

    It always comes down to Truth: the bible says, ‘the love of money is the root of all evil’. In countries where the Truth is suppressed, evil and greed grows. Freedom comes when hearts are free to love and be loved by their Creator.
