@YoMommaShugga a james may doll would be great. it’d have to have catch phrases.. ‘cock!’ ‘bloody nora!’ ‘brilliant’ and some engineering talk that no one understands
plus interchangeable floral shirts and stripy jumpers.
I love this hobby! That Hunter=gorgeous!
5:01 the kid on malcom in the middle LOL
First kit:
Revell F/A 18E Superhornet
yeah if ben thinging maybe old fashend toys are very cool
i want my own james may doll..
Karibodude so did I lol. I think this is a cool idea. Wish something like this was on in the States. Im a 26 year old rejuvinated model builder. Its addictive. lol
My thanks too for putting this on here. Recorded the wrong bloody channel on Wed. nite. Me first one in the 60’s was a Walrus from memory. Bi-plane with floats that picked up pilots shot down over the English Channel. Mainly built 1/72 and 1/32 kits. All up in the ceiling safe. F4U Corsair, Junkers 87 in Russian camoflage, and P40 in 1/32 scale are just some of me good ones, but me all time favourite aircraft is the Hawker Tempest ground attack version. Absolute attitude with menace. Carry on.
First kit.
Airfix Boomerang, c1967
Followed by Airfix FW190D…made the old Boomerang look squat and ugly..surprising that Airfix had even picked up a subject like a Boomerang, a relatively unimportant and undistinguished native-Australian type, that early.
It was almost FROG style.
After the Boomerang I got involved with the then generally poor but still fascinating 60s 1/100 Japanese kit like the seaplane series…probably crown or Otaki brand.
Its sad and surprising to ehar that the hobby is almost dead, so far as the young go, anyway, on the occasions I list an older kit on ebay, or a good book on modelling especially scale boats, the response is usually strong.
Except a Novo Barracuda, was surprised the interest in that was half-hearted.
Christ, made the Defiant several times…it was one of their better kits, as the little .303 gun barrels were a reasonable scale, unlike the ones they used on their night bombers.
Thank-you for posting this, as my recorder just fucked it up trying to record it from TV..
Magnificent reminisce..I figured his little Spitfire from 1975 must have been the Mark V kit….one I never built.
( could never bring myself to buy subjects that had been “promoted” up a series, as the Spitfire and few others like the Dornier were)
Brilliant! As an Airfix addict in the 70s and 80s James really captures how addictive it was to make the kits, and the quality of them as well. I still remember with great fondness my Boulton Paul Defiant and Short Stirling from those days…
@nickzourbakis lol i PMS exhibition
i giggled at bluetits x3
It’s just a little riff Gil Cang, a producer/songwriter came up with specifically for the show. Look up Advent Children “Calling”, the melody is nearly identical (starts at about 0:30). Coincidence? You be the judge
i love how he casually rolls up in his porsche 911!!!
i play 40k i learn about anti-hive fleet tactics how to arange a good Whaaag!
and imperial dogma….
its the totally rad shooooooow
Since when has “for entertainment purposes only” meant copyright doesn’t apply?
Not that I’m complaining. Great show and I’ll be getting the series on DVD when I see it available in Australia.
James May action figure? Oh hell yes!
TRS
my very first model kit was an airfix. a gazelle helicopter in 1/72 :-)))
does anyone know the song at the start?
i luv that song!

Wasn’t there an Airfix style F1 car in the back of the Top Gear studio for a long time?
